Diodes Inc.'s AL1678 universal AC input (85-277VAC) step-down LED driver, a high-efficiency, high-accuracy converter with an internal 500V MOSFET for use with external components. The company says this provides a low-cost bill of materials (BOM) solution without the need for auxiliary windings. The AL1678 topology provides accurate constant current and good line and load regulation. They operate in Boundary Conduction Mode (BCM), simplifying EMI / EMC certification and testing to meet the latest regulatory requirements. AL1678 has many protection functions to improve the safety and reliability of the system. When the driver's temperature is higher than the preset value, the thermal feedback function reduces the LED current. The AL1678 is available in a SO-7 package, which increases the gap between the drain and CS pins. Applications include non-dimmable retrofit LEDs, high-voltage DC-DC LED drivers, and universal constant current sources.
