Diodes Incorporated continues to strengthen its portfolio of USB Power Delivery (PD) solutions with the introduction of two new high-performance USB PD3.0 Sink controller ICs. The AP33771 and AP33772 receiver controllers are designed for home appliances and cordless power tools, and can be coordinated through USB-C to achieve proper voltage levels. Both controllers operate over a voltage range of 3.3V to 24V.

The AP33771 features simple pinout for voltage and power requirements for added convenience, while the AP33772 provides more flexibility for sophisticated designs with µC (including an I2C interface). Both devices feature built-in application firmware that automatically performs PD3.0 coordination with an attached USB PD3.0 compliant charger to achieve the desired power level. LED lights (driven by a GPIO) clearly show charging status and possible fault conditions.

The AP33771 has a preloaded power menu with 8 output voltages and 10 power levels. By simply changing the resistor settings, the power requirements of the end equipment can be met. Additionally, it provides 5V charging when connected to a traditional USB Type-A charger and supports voltage drop compensation for USB Type-C to USB Type-C cables.

The AP33772's I2C interface enables more complex system designs, whereby specific power profiles can be specified and various protection features can be used. And the AP33771 and AP33772 are available in a 24-pin W-QFN4040 package.
