Kemet introduced two new high-performance metal-impregnated paper film capacitors-480VAC P278, Class X1 and 500VAC P295, Y1. Paper capacitors are high-performance EMI capacitors in terms of safety, reliability, over-voltage, transient processing, self-healing ability, and long-term connection to the mains. The company states that they are highly resistant to ionization and are more stable than any other dielectric on the market. The new capacitors are ideal for industrial use with pump circulators or special high-reliability power supplies. They consist of multiple layers of metal paper that are encapsulated and immersed in a self-extinguishing material that meets the requirements of UL 94 V-0. Typical applications include electromagnetic interference suppressors used in all X1 and cross-line applications worldwide. Typical applications for the P295 series include safety capacitors for bridging double or reinforced insulation applications that require voltage tests up to 4,000VAC in 60 seconds. The company said that during this test, the P295 series capacitors could be left in place.
