Low noise measurement for MEMS capacitive accelerometers

Technology Cover
Date de Parution: 2022-01-13, Silicon Labs

Silicon Designs has released its single-axle model 2210 series. The range of standards is ±2g to ±400g, and rugged designs include MEMS capacitive accelerometer chips with high drive and low impedance buffers. When used with recommended mounting block attachments such as its own model 2330-BLK, the series reliably and flexibly measures vibration and acceleration on one, two or three orthogonal axes with the same precision and repeatability. These low-noise, low-cost MEMS capacitive accelerometer modules provide accurate and repeatable measurements for a variety of low-frequency vibration test applications, including vibration analysis, modal analysis, robotics, mechanical control, and collision event detection common applications. The measurement versatility provided by this series enables customers to specify a single part number for a variety of unique measurement needs, thereby reducing internal costs and inventory numbers.

All series MEMS capacitive accelerometer modules generate two analog voltage outputs that vary with the applied acceleration. Customers can use single-ended or differential output. The latter doubles the accelerometer's sensitivity. The sensitive axis of the series is perpendicular to the bottom of the package and the positive acceleration is characterized by the force pushing the bottom of the package. The output proportional factor is independent of the supply voltage +8V ~ +32V. At zero acceleration, the differential output voltage is nominally 0VDC; Full range ±4VDC. A simple and rugged four-wire connection and an internal voltage regulator reduce the impact of power supply voltage changes. Each module's high-quality MEMS capacitive sensing element is packaged in a single, compact, lightweight, epoxy-sealed and anodized aluminum housing that takes up 1 square inch of floor space.

Each product is designed, developed and manufactured 100% at the company's own global corporate headquarters and ISO9001:2015 certified RESEARCH and development center. Each accelerometer is also subjected to rigorous quality testing before shipment. All modules are relatively insensitive to temperature changes and provide fast and easy self-calibration.
