Renesas Electronics Corporation has added a new member to the RX 32-bit MCU family, the RX660 group of MCUs, supporting operating voltages up to 5V, providing excellent noise tolerance for home appliances and industrial equipment exposed to high EMI. The high operating voltage of the new MCUs eliminates the requirement for external noise suppression components required by many current 3V MCUs. This enables customers to reduce development time and component costs and improve system quality.

The device developed by the company utilizes its RXv3 core (6.00 CoreMark/MHz) and operates at a maximum frequency of 120MHz, providing high performance and excellent power efficiency. The device is the first in the company's high-end RX general-purpose MCU devices to support 5V, and the first in the RX family to offer a built-in CAN FD controller, allowing fast data communication. The device offers high-capacity ROM up to 1MB and RAM up to 128KB, and offers many package options (48-pin to 144-pin).

In addition, the effective pin count for general purpose I/O pins is 10% higher than the earlier RX210, which was also 5V compatible. For example, the 144-pin version has an effective pin count of 134, 11 more than the RX210. As the I/O count increases, more sensors can be connected to the MCU for a given package, making it easier to upgrade existing systems.

"At Daikin, we have been using Renesas' RX mcu in our main air conditioner products for over 10 years, and we welcome the new RX660 mcu, which features Superior noise tolerance. The RX mcu offers superior CPU performance, flash memory for enhanced real-time operation and scalable development of foot-compatible devices with Daikin Industries Ltd. These advantages are what we consider essential in MCU products.”

"Electromagnetic waves in the surrounding environment can cause system failure or performance degradation, so noise suppression in home appliances and industrial products is critical," said Eiji Ito, vice president of the Internet of Things (IoT) Platform Division at Renesas. "We introduced The new RX660 microcontroller has been launched in response to strong demand from customers who need to design products with high supply voltages. We are happy to help customers simplify the product design process.”
