OmniVision has announced its new OS04L CMOS 4 megapixel (MP) image sensor. OS04L brings 2K resolution digital images and high-definition (HD) video to consumer security devices such as smart homes, doorbells, baby monitors, IP, and HD analog cameras. The OS04L sensor enables manufacturers to use small pixel size sensors in 1/3 inch optical format, increasing camera resolution from 2 /3 megapixels to 4 megapixels economically and efficiently.

The 2.0 micron pixel size of the OS04L image sensor uses OmniVision's OmniPixel 3-HS technology. This high-performance, cost-effective solution uses highly sensitive front lighting (FSI) to achieve realistic color reproduction in both light and dark conditions."OS04L enables consumer security devices to seamlessly upgrade their camera resolution to 4 megapixels at a price comparable to 2 and 3 megapixel sensors," said Cheney Zhang, Senior Marketing Manager at OmniVision. This is particularly important as the demand for entry-level smart home devices is growing worldwide and customers are looking for high performance, cost-effective products."

According to a report by Grand View Research, Inc. 1, the global smart home market size is expected to reach US $537.01 billion by 2030, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 27% from 2022 to 2030. In 2021, the security and surveillance segment accounted for the highest revenue share of about 31%.The OS04L image sensor offers 2K resolution at 30 frames/SEC and has 2x2 binning mode for increased sensitivity. OS04L supports the MIPI interface.
