      Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. announced the launch of a new high-energy liquid tantalum capacitor, the EP2, to meet the needs of aerospace applications, with industry-leading capacitance per voltage level and form factor. EP2 is available in B and C packages, with radial plug-in termination and optional screw fixing. It can be used to directly replace similar devices, or as a high-capacity capacitor in an equivalent mechanical package, reducing the number of components, saving space, and reducing design costs. .

      The recently released devices use Vishay's proven SuperTan® technology, with ultra-high densities of 2,700 µF to 48,000 µF and 3,600 µF to 72,000 µF for B-package and C-package devices, respectively. Capacitors are rated for 25 VDC to 125 VDC. The EP2 capacitance index is at the advanced level in the industry, among which the C package device has a capacitance of 9,000 µF at 80 V and 58,000 µF at 35 V, which are 50 % and 21 % higher than the next competitor, respectively. . The standard capacitance tolerance of capacitors is ± 20 %, and products with a tolerance of ± 10 % are also available.

    The EP2 features an all-tantalum hermetically sealed enclosure for improved reliability and is suitable for pulsed power and energy retention applications in laser guidance, radar and avionics systems. Capacitors are mechanically robust with improved resistance to vibration (high frequency: 20 g; random: 19.64 g) and mechanical shock (50 g).

       Capacitors operate at -55 °C to +85 °C, up to +125 °C when used with voltage derating, and have a maximum ESR as low as 0.017 Ω at 1 kHz and +25 °C. Capacitors are available with tin/lead (Sn/Pb) termination and RoHS compliant 100% pure tin termination.
